OPORA has received such information from the Main Department for the Access to Public Information of the Administration of the President of Ukraine, as an answer to its inquiry.
On 26 June, OPORA had sent an information request to the Administration of the President of Ukraine, asking to provide all the information concerning candidates for members of the CEC, including their biographies, property and income statement, and the date of nomination by a deputy faction of a group of MPs.
Besides that, OPORA asked the President whether he conducted repeated consultations with factions and groups of MPs concerning candidates for members of the CEC, at which stage the new submission is and when he plans to register it in the Parliament.
According to the information provided by the Main Department of Regional and Personnel Policy of the Administration of the President of Ukraine, parliamentary factions submit new candidates for members of the Central Election Commission in 2017.
We would like to remind, that representative of the President of Ukraine in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine MP of Ukraine Iryna Lutsenko has stated on the air of the 5th Channel on 21 June:
“Concerning the CEC. As far as I know from the last meetings, the consultations were conducted almost 100% in the Parliament. The President has already seen new candidacies from the factions. The President said: “I will sign only new candidates.” I think we will have a new CEC closer to the autumn,” – she said.
As we already know, 13 of 15 members of the Central Election Commission have had their term of office expired.
The President submitted to the Parliament documents for withdrawal of 12 current members of the CEC and appointment of new ones, but the Verkhovna Rada has failed to consider the corresponding draft resolutions.
We would also like to remind that the EU called to solve the issue with substitution of Central Election Commission membership as soon as possible.
