On 11 March, 11:00 AM in Crystal Hall of the Hotel Kyiv (26/1 Hrushevskoho St., Kyiv city) OPORA is holding a public discussion titled “Reform of the Parliamentary Election Law Becomes Topical”.

It is important for Ukraine to start preparing the law on parliamentary elections, as long as the reform of electoral legislation has a direct influence on efficiency of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, development of party system, and efficient rotation of political parties. Open-list proportional representation system, which the politicians like to discuss on TV, is not an alternative to the current parallel system, according to MPs. New law on parliamentary elections should guarantee voters' influence on membership of the Parliament, and correspond to recommendations of European institutions and election law experts.

We propose to discuss:

  • drawbacks of current electoral legislation;
  • creation of an official platform, so that MPs could work on a par with independent experts;
  • existing legislative initiatives aimed to modify the electoral system;
  • chances for adoption of a new law before the current session of the Parliament ends.

MPs of Ukraine, international and domestic experts and mass media representatives were invited to participate in the event.

Registration is open until 14 PM on 10 March. All the participants hould fill in the form: http://goo.gl/forms/IN2XMkFtbT
