Starting Parliamentary Elections:
Main Risks of Election Campaign during the Unstable Political and Military Situation
On September 11, 2014 at 11:30 the Civil Network OPORA will hold a press-conference “Starting Parliamentary Elections: Main Risks of Election Campaign during the Unstable Political and Military Situation” at the UNIAN information agency (Kyiv, Khreshchatyk str. 4). During the event experts will discuss the start of local PR campaigns by candidates, formation of DECs, risks that already had and will have influence on the election campaign in some of the oblasts, mainly in Donbas, and generally in Ukraine.
In late August the election process covering preparation and conduct of Early Parliamentary Elections to be held on the 26th of October officially started. The Central Election Commission created 213 district election commisions (DECs) by representatives of four parliamentary parties and 21 political parties whose candidates participated in the last Parliamentary Election in 2012.
Many parties which received less than 1% during the Parliamentary Election 2012 will have a disproportionately big number of their representatives at DECs. In some regions campaigning has already started, although the process of registration of candidates and political parties still goes on.
Experts of OPORA will discuss main organizational risks of conduct of the Early Parliamentary Elections, mainly at the territory covered by anti-terroristic operation in Donbas, as well as about the peculiarities of the national observation campaign 2014:
- Olha Aivazobska, Election and Parliamentary Programs Coordinator, OPORA;
- Oleksandr Kliuzhev, Analyst, OPORA.
