The decisions of Ukrainian people to return from abroad are mostly defined by the three following factors: emotional bond to the Homeland, resumed security in their region, and the willingness to reunify with their families.

The conclusion was announced in the Media Center Ukraine Inform, during the presentation of the survey findings on migration, media consumption, and civil and political activism of forcefully displaced Ukrainians, by the analyst of the Civil network OPORA, Anastasiia Romaniuk.

“If we talk about what drives Ukrainian to return to Ukraine, whenever that happens, there are three most popular factors. First, I tis the emotional connection to their Homeland; second – when the security is reinstalled in their region; and thirdly – they want to reunify with their families,” she revealed.

According to Romaniuk, OPORA analysts identified certain age differences on that matter.

“For example, younger respondents believe the most important factor is the job opportunities in Ukraine, while the older age respondents want to have the reinstalled security in their region, in the first place. For 51+ respondents, emotional bond with Ukraine is most critical,” the analysts explained.

She informed that according to the survey, the absolute majority of respondents have the plans to return to  Ukraine.

“However, we detected a trend that their return plans depend on whether they have the highly paid job, whether they speak local languages, the relations with local population, etc.” Romaniuk said.

The survey “Media Consumption and Civil and Political Engagement of Ukrainian People Out of Country” was conducted based on the analytical developments and commissioned by the Civil network OPORA and covered Ukrainian people in seven countries: the UK, Israel, Spain, Germany, USA, Hungary, and Czech Republic.
