The press conference “Results of admission observation in 2011” took place on August, 17th, 2011 at the press club "New Day".
The main problem of this year's admissions in Kherson was called the system "Electronic admission". In the first week of the campaign OPORA observers concluded that the applicants were unable to apply to Kherson universities via the Internet. When using the newest system, students dealt with main difficulties: refusal to register, even in case of the correct filling in of the form; applicants did not receive confirmation from admission boards; confusion arose when sending documents (applicant sends documents to HNTU, and the system redirects them to the KNU of T. Shevchenko).
During formal and informal communication with representatives of OPORA and the journalists the members of admission boards admitted that the system "Electronic admission" does not perform all functions assigned to it. According to a survey, of 100 students over one third (39 people) tried to use the system. Neither of them reached successful outcome.
In a separate survey the graduates of Kherson university were asked to answer the question "Are you going to pay bribes during your university studying?", "What (who) most influenced your choice of future specialty?", "Where do you plan to live during study in university?” According to the survey, 47% of students are going to pay "gratitude" to the teachers for good grades. 24% - hesitated with the answer to this question and 29% of respondents stated their firm intention to study faithfully. According to the expectations of respondents, the university, where the percent of corruption is the lowest is Kherson State University - 29% of respondents, the highest - KhSAU (67%).
The choice of students’ profession mostly depended on parents and prestige of the specialty, 44 and 37 percent respectively. Most respondents (63%) plan to live in dormitories, but two-thirds of them can change their decision within the first year and join the 15% who opted for rented apartments. The poll was conducted among 300 students from three major universities in Kherson (KhSU, KhSAU, KhNTU).
The results of monitoring the admissions process in 2011 and recommendations of OPORA observers will be transferred to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and to universities, which participated in the project.
Observations were conducted by OPORA with the support of the International "Renaissance" fund. Spreading of false information about the collaboration during the observation between "OPORA" and some political organizations is defamatory. In case of repeated publication of such data by third parties, OPORA has the right to appeal to court.
The admission monitoring project in 2011 is supported by the International fund "Renaissance”.
