May 28, Ivano-Frankivsk. Round table "Features of the admissaion to higher education in 2010: the advantages and disadvantages" was held at conference hall in Ivano-Frankivsk Regional tourist information center. The organizers were OPORA and the Committee of Voters of Ukraine.
Brief description of this year's conditions of admission to universities was given at the round table by Ivan Marunyak. The following discussion was participated by executive secretary of the admission board of Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas M. Mazur, vice-rector and executive secretary of the admission board of Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University, L.Glushko and I. Sarapuk, representatives of parent committees, local journalists.
While supporting the general principles laid down in the EIT, the roundtable participants expressed different opinions on this year's innovations such as GPA of the school certificate, limiting the number of universities and training areas where the entrant may submit an application. Most participants agreed with the need to introduce the average score certificate, but representative of the CVU Yuriy Lysyuk called for the postponement of the selection criteria for universities. He believes implementing the average score of the certificate in this year's admissions process can contribute to corruption in schools. Also, considerable attention was paid to the topic of differentiated approach to joining the university for rural and urban youth, as rural comprehensive schools are in slightly worse conditions compared with the city ones.
Among the shortcomings of the conditions of admission to university representative of the medical university I. Sarapuk noted lack of defined criteria for granting priority entry, which applies with equal number of points in several entrants. It may cause some difficulty for admissions committees.
